  • 'Persecution' claim over priest's sacking

    Barry Trayhorn, left, is a Pentecostal minister who was fired for using his job at a prison to spread homophobia. He has now seeking help from Christian Concern to sue his former employer.His run-in with prison the authorities at Littlehey prison in Bedfordshire began after he told gay inmates in 2014 that they must repent their homosexuality to please God.During a chapel service, Trayhorn, who was working as gardener at the prison, told the “sexually immoral” and “men who have sex with men” that they must abandon their sins to “inherit the kingdom of God”.Following complaints, Trayhorn was banned from taking part in future services and told to stick to his gardening duties – though he claims he was just “sharing the Bible”.   • PTT welcomes award for Raif Badawi

    The UK LGBTI Humanist charity the Pink Triangle Trust (PTT) has warmly welcomed the news that Raif Badawi, above, has won the European Parliament’s Sakharov prize for human rights.Badawi is the Saudi Arabian blogger, writer, activist, and creator of the website Free Saudi Liberals, an online platform for political and religious debate. He has been sentenced to 10 years in prison and 1,000 lashes for insulting Islam, and apostasy.Named after the Soviet Humanist scientist and dissident Andrei Sakharov, the award was created in 1988 to honour people and organisations defending human rights and fundamental freedoms.The announcement was greeted with a standing ovation at the European parliament in Strasbourg, France, and Guy Verhofstadt, leader of the Liberal bloc, said: "The European parliament has sent today a strong political and humanitarian message to the Saudi Arabian authorities. We urge His Majesty King Salman to release Raif Badawi from prison and, in any case, to end the barbaric punishment of flogging." PTT Secretary George Broadhead said: "This award must be very welcome to everyone concerned about humans rights. It is also a slap in the face for the Saudi Arabian Islamic theocracy.     The Roman Catholic Church is ‘full of homosexuals’ yet chooses to make life ‘hell’ for millions of gay Catholics. That’s the view of Krzysztof Charamsa, above, a senior Vatican priest who was stripped of his post earlier this month after admitting being in a gay relationship.     What happens when the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (seriously?) and the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood (you gotta be kidding!) join forces for a ‘gay cure’ jawing session at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky? Well, for starters, you attract a dozens of angry gays protesters who insist that “gay cures” aka “reparative therapies” are dangerous and increase the rate of depression and suicide in the LGBT community. Then you get the evangelicals insisting that gays need to “change”, but that a new approach is now needed because attempts by therapists to affect such “changes” or “repairs” are “superficial” and don’t work.     On Tuesday the county commissioners of Blount County, Tennessee will vote on a resolution which asks God to “pass us by” during “His Coming Wrath” when he righteously kills the fuck out of the rest of America over gay marriage.
